Our Youth Flamenco Program is one of our more exciting programs at EFDC. It is designed to empower your child with confidence, resiliency, empathy, and courage. Your child will not only learn how to be an excellent Flamenco dancer and performer but will also benefit from the leadership and life skills that Flamenco naturally teaches a child.
Resilience and Confidence
Some of the most valuable skills students will get from Flamenco dance class are resilience and confidence. Flamenco is a fun dance form that is also mentally, intellectually, and physically challenging. But don’t tell your child that, as they will have fun learning new rhythms, dancing, stomping their feet and playing the cajon. Students will earn buttons and awards as they progress through their lessons.
Flamenco for kids!
“My daughters have uncovered a passion for flamenco in just a few shorts months. Miss Sarah keeps the class so fun while also making it challenging. They are building confidence with performances and taking their tests to eventually become part of the student leadership team. They are getting a rich education of this beautiful Spanish tradition with dance, music, singing and community! Olé!” Jenna M.
Flamenco teaches children and especially young girls that strength and confidence are beautiful.
“Tanner is in love with dancing flamenco! It has been tremendous to watch her grow in her skills and develop her own style and presence when she dances. She has demonstrated so much personal commitment to flamenco, attending class twice a week and assisting in a kids beginning class one day a week. I see so much joy in her when she gets to tell other people that she dances flamenco and takes any opportunity to show off her flamenco skills to others.” Christine G
Young dancers get to perform regularly with live music. This build their confidence, teaches them how to work with each other and builds their listening skills as they learn to dance with the musicians.
Flamenco is an emotional and passionate dance form. Flamenco teaches students to not avoid their feelings but rather to feel them, understand them and express them. Some dances are happy and joyous. Others are sad or angry. The wide range of emotions explored in Flamenco dance give a child a chance to explore, feel and express all those emotions in a safe and supportive environment. Many children overcome their shyness in Flamenco class as they boost their confidence and feel more comfortable expressing themselves. Flamenco helps children to live emotionally healthy lives.
Listening Skills, Team Work and Empathy
Flamenco students will learn to work as a team. Flamenco dance is not a solo art form, but rather an art form that is done with other dancers and live music. A young dancer must learn how to communicate. listen and support each other onstage and off stage.
